Fair Pay

In 2023, Sinai postdocs negotiated for historic raises and the highest minimum salaries in the country for postdoctoral workers. But in recent years, organizing by researchers across NYC have caused wages to go up, and Sinai is at risk of falling behind.

At the same time, Instructors and Scientists have suffered from years without guaranteed annual increases to keep up with cost of living, making Sinai less able to retain talented researchers.

Efforts to cut or disrupt federal research funding have compounded these issues, with researchers who might otherwise have moved to New York City or remained in the U.S. after a graduate program instead choosing to leave the country in search of more stable funding environments.

With fair union contracts, we can counteract these forces and make Sinai more attractive to globally sought after researchers – through competitive wages, benefits that help balance the high cost of rent in NYC, and a more fair, predictable system for promotions.
